Frequently Asked Questions
- Who designs and makes the hats?
-
Trisha Lea is the designer and hat artist. She creates each of the beautiful hats found on the website. For custom hats, Trisha Lea works closely with each client on their custom order. You can be a part of the design process or you can give Trisha an idea and give her full creative control to create something stunning for you. Either way, you are going to have a hat that will have heads turning as you walk in a room.
- Where are you located?
-
The Pacific Northwest! Born & raised in a small town with Mt. Rainier in my backyard.
- How long is the typical wait for a custom hat?
-
Each hat is different and many factors come into play. If a hat is in stock, turnaround time can be anywhere from 1-2 weeks depending on how many orders are in front of yours. If you need a special size, type, or color of hat that I do not have in stock it could take 2-4 weeks before the hat is ready to ship. I will always give you a realistic time frame so you know what to expect.
- What payment options do you accept?
-
Payments are processed via my SSL secured website via PayPal where you can use the credit card of your choice. Super simple and safe.
- Do you have a cancellation policy?
-
All hat sales are final. Other merchandise such as t-shirts, hoodies or other merchandise may be returned for exchange or refund as long as they have not been worn, and no tags have been removed. If an item is returned and it has makeup stains on the item no refund will be given and customer is responsible for return shipping to get the item back.. Return shipping is the buyers responsibility. If you need a return please contact us at smokeshowhats@gmail.com for a return authorization number before sending any items back.
- How weather resistant are your hats?
-
All of out hats are top quality. Our non-burned hats handle light rain or snow with few worries for the wearer, that applies to sunshine as well. It is however, highly recommended that you keep any hat with a custom burned design out of wet weather as is can effect the design and the smell of the hat. If you have questions please contact us via email at smokeshowhats@gmail.com
- Do I need to worry about sweating in my hat? And if so what can I do about it?
-
Although our high-quality hats are designed to last, sweat bands will eventually wear out. If you frequently wear your hat (as most of our customers do), the internal band will eventually need to be replaced. To avoid that, we suggest purchasing sweat patches that can be easily removed and cleaned when needed.
- How do I measure my head to find out my hat size?
-
STEPS FOR MEASURING YOUR HEAD
You'll need a measuring tape or a long piece of string and a ruler to start.
Then follow these three easy steps:
- Use the tape measure or piece of string to measure the circumference of your head by placing it just about an inch above your ears.
- If you're using a tape measure, record the measurement in inches and centimeters onto a piece of paper. If you're using a string, place the piece of string and measure it using your ruler, then record those measurements.
- Take the measurements and then compare them to the hat sizing chart found on our website in the custom hats section.
DON'T PULL THE STRING/MEASURING TAPE TOO TIGHTLY
It might be tempting to pull too tightly to pull the measuring tape or string too tightly to get a measurement for a snug fit. Instead, pull the string or measuring tape so it's as tight as you'd want the hat to feel on your head.
It's also important to remember that some hats should fit more loosely than others, so think about the style of the hat that you're looking at and how that should rest on your head.
WHEN IN DOUBT, GO UP A SIZE
What do you do if you measure your head and your measurement comes up in-between sizes?
Because sizes are approximate and will vary with the style of the hat and the material it's made from, it's best to choose a larger size rather than a smaller size.
MEASURE YOUR HEAD PROPERLY TO FIND THE PERFECT FITTING HAT
It doesn't take a lot of time or tools to measure your head correctly so you can find the perfect fitting hat for your head.
It only takes a measuring tape or some string and a ruler. Pull it snugly around your head about an inch above the ears. Of course, it's always a good idea to take a second measurement to confirm the first one.
Hat sizes differ from style to style, and according to the materials they are made with. If you're in between sizes, it's typically a good idea to go up a size. However, many hats, like those from Smoke Show Hats can be adjusted down a full size.
